FAQ

Here are some usual questions and useful information!

When is the best time to visit Athens?

Any time except July and August  because these are the hot months and heat waves can overpass 40 degrees Celsius (104 Farenheit).

April-May-June and September-October-November are the best! Still, winter is also ok as it is mild in Athens.

Is Athens safe for tourists?

Yes, it has low crime rates and is safe for all travelers, including solo and female. The only potential problems for travelers can be pickpocketing, purse snatchings, and mobile phone theft. Some general advice:

·      Pay special attention in crowded areas and the Metro

·      Use well-lit, well-populated ATMs

·      Avoid leaving your phone lying on café tables, or it might be snatched.

·      You might see open drug use in some areas (usually, around Omonia and Exarchia Squares and Metaxourgio). Ignore them and they will generally ignore you.

·      Avoid Exarchia and Syntagma Square on days when demonstrations are planned, as police occasionally use tear gas to dispel protestors.

Do I need Visa for Greece?

Visas are not required by European citizens from countries that are part of the Schengen Area for a short stay period (up to 3 months). However, keep in mind that airlines and other carriers require a valid passport and/or identity card.

Citizens coming from countries not yet in the Schengen Area may need a visa to enter Greece. The E.U. visitors from these countries can acquire further information from the Greek Embassies or Consulates in their countries, or from their travel agencies.

U.S.A. visitors usually do not need a visa (for visits up to 90 days), see more here

For other countries, please consult the detailed information on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' website and find out whether you require a Visa

Are there any COVID-19 restrictions in Greece?

No, travelers visiting Greece are no longer required to fill out the Passenger Locator Form (PLF). Additionally, all travelers arriving in Greece, regardless of their country of origin, are no longer required to display a valid certificate of vaccination or recovery from COVID-19, or evidence of a negative test result from SARS-CoV-2 infection (PCR or Rapid Antigen test). What if I need urgent medical care in Greece?

Travelers from countries other than the member states of the European Union are advised to have suitable insurance coverage for emergency medical or other needs. Consult your social security agency for information before travelling.
